Welcome to Loddiswell Community
Website
Loddiswell is a riparian parish in the heart of the rolling South Hams countryside. The village, perched high on a hillside, overlooks the scenic Avon Valley whose river wends its way from its source high on Dartmoor, through the steep wooded valley with its temperate rainforest and rare flora and fauna, until it eventually reaches the sea at Bantham.
Dating back to an early settlement in Roman times, the village takes its name from Saint Loda’s well - which is still in existence today.
Situated within the parish is the Devon Wildlife Trust nature reserve and SSSI: Andrew’s Wood and Blackdown Rings: an Iron Age hill fort and Norman motte and bailey.
Loddiswell is a lively, working village with a strong sense of community.
This website aims to tell you everything you need to know about Loddiswell, with links to the Parish Council, clubs and organisations within the village. Those organisations without their own websites will have pages on this one - please email if you would like to be included.
The Village Diary will be hosted on here - please email with any events to be included.
The website is currently under construction, so please bear with us until it is completed
Loddiswell Parish Council
Loddiswell Parish Councillors are elected representatives from the local community who give their time voluntarily to take decisions on behalf of the people in the parish and address local needs from planning to health and safety.
Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm in the Congregational Hall. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
Devon County Councillor
Louise Wainwright
I have been elected as a County Councillor for the electoral division of Salcombe. I intend to serve the interests of all residents, regardless of political persuasion.
I became a councillor because of my concerns for the representation of parishioners in rural and coastal communities and the need to ensure parish and town Councils are unitary-ready for local government re-organisation. I want to contribute my experience and knowledge on environmental and farming issues to Devon-wide initiatives.
South Hams District Councillor
Lee Bonham
I am delighted to be your councillor for Loddiswell. My aim is to listen, represent your views, and ensure that the council works for you. The South Hams is a very special place and deserves to be looked after. I want the South Hams to have the best environment possible for people and for nature, and I will do my best to achieve that.
The Loddiswell Show
Organised by Loddiswell Horticultural and Sports Society, the show is an annual event held on the first Saturday in August. In 2024 we celebrated its 100th anniversary!
The Loddiswell Community Pub Group
The Loddiswell Community Pub Group (LCPG) was formed to help secure a long term future for a community led pub in the village, centred around the Loddiswell Inn. While that ambition remains, the group’s immediate focus has evolved in response to changing circumstances.
In the short term, our energy is firmly behind developing The Pavilion at the playing fields into a welcoming, inclusive community hub. Working alongside the Playing Fields & Village Hall Trust, we are building something that the village can use and enjoy now, A space for socialising, events, sport, and everyday connection.
The Pavilion bar is already open regularly and growing in use, with plans to expand both opening times and the range of activities on offer. Our aim is to create a warm, flexible space that serves as a focal point for the community.
We continue to keep a watching brief on the future of the Loddiswell Inn and remain open to opportunities where the community could play a role. For now, though, our priority is to make the most of what we have, building momentum, involvement, and a strong foundation for whatever comes next.
Wild About Loddiswell
Wild About Loddiswell is open to all residents in the parish of Loddiswell and to anyone with an interest in conservation, wildlife and a more sustainable way of living. Our aim is to enhance the biodiversity of the green spaces in the village, improving them for wildlife and the enjoyment of the community. We organise nature based activity days for children; visits to conservation projects, practical projects and more…
The Loddiswell Community Forum is a bringing together of groups and organisations within the parish to support each other and to help develop key priorities and plans for the village, working alongside the Parish Council

A Pump Track For Loddiswell
Plans are underway to build a pumptrack in Loddiswell - a modern cycling facility featuring a circuit of small hills and banked corners designed for bikes, scooters and skateboards. Unlike traditional skate parks, pumptracks work for all skill levels and ages, from young children learning balance to experienced riders perfecting their technique. The proposed track would be surfaced in tarmac or concrete, requiring minimal maintenance while providing year-round use for the community. The project group is actively seeking funding from national sports bodies and local grants to make this vision a reality. With the nearest facilities currently in Moreleigh or Totnes, a Loddiswell pumptrack would save families from traveling long distances and give village youth a dedicated space for outdoor activity right on their doorstep.
